Neighbours Cancelled Again – The End of an Era?
It’s happening again, folks— Neighbours is getting the axe, and this time, it might really be the end. Just two years after Amazon MGM Studios swooped in to save the beloved Australian soap, they've now announced that the show will officially wrap up by the end of 2025. That means after 40 years and over 9,000 episodes, Ramsay Street is shutting its doors once more.
Amazon hasn’t given a clear reason for the cancellation, but fans are understandably heartbroken. This soap isn’t just a TV show—it’s a part of pop culture history. It launched the careers of stars like Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and Margot Robbie, entertained generations of viewers, and even bagged its first Emmy nomination last year. But despite the revival efforts, it seems that Neighbours just couldn’t hold on in the streaming era.
If you remember, back in 2022, the show had what seemed like a grand farewell. Channel 5 pulled the plug, and the final episode was a massive event, featuring star-studded cameos and an emotional goodbye. It felt like a proper send-off—until Amazon brought it back just four months later. Fans were thrilled, hoping the series had found a permanent home. But as we now see, streaming services operate differently. Instead of long-running shows with loyal audiences, they prioritize new and “buzzy” content that draws in fresh subscribers. So, after two years of trying, Amazon has decided to let Neighbours go.

But is this really the end? Well, the show’s executive producer, Jason Herbison, hinted that they’re still hopeful for a future comeback. In a statement, he acknowledged the deep love fans have for Neighbours and suggested that there might still be more stories to tell. Of course, that means they’ll need to find yet another network or streaming platform willing to take on the project.
Until then, the show will continue airing on Amazon Prime Video and Australia’s Channel Ten four times a week, right up until December 2025. That gives fans some time to prepare for the farewell—again.
As expected, people are not happy. Social media has been flooded with disappointed reactions, with fans refusing to accept that their beloved Neighbours is being taken away from them. Some are even threatening to cancel their Prime Video subscriptions in protest. It’s clear that, for many, Neighbours is more than just a soap—it’s a daily escape, a comforting constant in their lives.
This cancellation also comes at a tough time, following the recent news about actor Ian Smith—who played the iconic Harold Bishop—revealing his terminal cancer diagnosis. It feels like an especially sad moment for the Neighbours community, who have already endured so much uncertainty over the show’s fate.
So, what now? Will another network step in at the last minute? Will the show get yet another revival in a few years? Or is this truly the end of Ramsay Street? Whatever happens, one thing’s for sure— Neighbours has left a lasting mark on television history, and its fans won’t forget it anytime soon.
