Hey everyone, listen up—if you're a high school senior in Michigan, this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss! The deadline for the 2025 Rosa Parks Scholarship is quickly approaching on February 28 , and it could help cover your first year of college expenses.

This scholarship, established back in 1980 by The Detroit News and the Detroit Public Schools , honors the legacy of Rosa Parks —the civil rights icon who sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955 and spent her later years in Detroit. Here’s the deal: $2,500 will be awarded as a one-time scholarship to Michigan high school seniors. It’s specifically for tuition, books, and fees —so while it won’t cover all college costs, it can definitely help lighten the financial load. The scholarship gives priority to students with financial need, but all Michigan seniors are eligible to apply.

And there’s more! Scholarship recipients can also apply for two paid summer internships at The Detroit News . This means hands-on experience in journalism—reporting news, taking photos, and working in both print and digital media. If you’re interested in media, this is a fantastic bonus opportunity!

Now, let’s talk about the application. This year’s essay topic is pretty powerful:
"Segregation was the defining social issue when Rosa Parks took her historic stand. Describe a social issue that you think should be addressed today. How will YOU use the principles of Rosa Parks to address it?"

This is your chance to share your voice, highlight an important issue, and show how you embody Rosa Parks’ courage and determination.

Since its creation, this scholarship has awarded over $2.5 million to more than 1,300 students across Michigan. If you want to be part of that legacy, don’t wait— apply by February 28 ! Winners will be notified in mid-May.

If you know a high school senior who could benefit from this, spread the word! Rosa Parks’ legacy is about standing up (or in her case, staying seated) for what’s right—now it’s your turn to make an impact. 🚀
