Nick Robertson Shines as Maple Leafs Defeat Blackhawks 5-2
Alright, let’s talk about last night’s game—because it was a big one for the Toronto Maple Leafs! They took on the Chicago Blackhawks and came out on top with a solid 5-2 win. And the star of the night? Nick Robertson. The guy was on fire, scoring not just one, but two goals in the second period, helping Toronto secure their second straight victory.
It was an eventful game from the start. Chicago actually struck first, with Teuvo Teravainen netting a power-play goal in the dying seconds of the first period—marking his 500th career point, by the way. But Toronto wasn’t about to let that slide. The second period belonged to the Leafs. Max Domi, playing against one of his former teams, set up Robertson for a power-play goal at 7:09, tying things up. Then came a rocket from Jake McCabe at the blue line, pushing Toronto ahead 2-1. And just when it seemed like the period was winding down, Domi found Robertson again, who buried his second goal of the night with just 15 seconds left.

Chicago wasn’t done fighting, though. Frank Nazar made a slick play to set up Philipp Kurashev, cutting Toronto’s lead to 3-2 in the final seconds of the second. But the Leafs held strong. Chris Tanev extended the lead in the third when his shot deflected off T.J. Brodie’s skate and into the net, making it 4-2. And just to put the game to bed, Pontus Holmberg sealed the deal with an empty-netter with just over a minute left.
Goaltender Joseph Woll had a solid night in net for Toronto, making 25 saves, while Domi, despite his ongoing scoring drought, looked sharp with two assists. For Chicago, this was their second straight loss after a tough outing against Columbus, and while they started strong, they couldn’t keep up with Toronto’s depth and firepower.
Next up, both teams hit the road—Toronto heads to Boston, and Chicago takes on Utah. But for now, the Leafs can enjoy this one, because they’re looking sharp coming out of the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
