Pat Summitt Honored with Prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award

Pat Summitt’s legacy continues to shine, even years after her passing. The legendary University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach has been named one of the five recipients of the 2024-25 WeCOACH Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes women in sports who have achieved incredible success while also dedicating themselves to empowering future generations.

It’s no surprise that Summitt is receiving such an honor. She wasn’t just a coach—she was a trailblazer, a mentor, and an inspiration to so many. Over her 38-year career leading the Lady Vols, she built one of the most dominant programs in college basketball history. With 1,098 career wins, eight NCAA championships, and 32 combined SEC regular season and tournament titles, her impact on the game is undeniable. And beyond the numbers, she shaped the lives of countless players, producing 14 Olympic Team members and 34 WNBA athletes—all while maintaining a 100% graduation rate for players who completed their eligibility.

WeCOACH CEO Vanessa Fuchs spoke about the significance of this award, emphasizing that it honors those who not only excel in their fields but also pave the way for the future. Summitt certainly did that. She shattered barriers, set new standards, and left behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come. As Tennessee Athletics put it, "Hers is a light that also cannot be extinguished."

Beyond the court, Summitt’s influence extended into advocacy. Following her diagnosis with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2011, she established the Pat Summitt Foundation to raise awareness and fund research for the condition. Her contributions were recognized at the highest level—earning her the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama and the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

Pat Summitt may no longer be with us, but her impact remains as powerful as ever. This Lifetime Achievement Award is just another reminder of the legacy she built—one of excellence, empowerment, and inspiration.
