Pokémon Legends: Z-A Brings Fresh Adventures and Classic Starters
Alright, Pokémon fans, it's that time of the year again—Pokémon Day! And with it, we’ve got some exciting news straight from the Pokémon Presents showcase. The highlight? A brand-new look at Pokémon Legends: Z-A , which is shaping up to be one of the most exciting games in the series.
This time, we’re diving deep into Lumiose City, a setting unlike anything we’ve seen before in a Pokémon game. Instead of vast open fields, we’re getting an urban environment where Pokémon and humans live side by side. The battles are getting a fresh new twist too—no more simple turn-based combat. Instead, positioning and movement on the battlefield will play a huge role, making battles feel more dynamic, almost like a strategy RPG. Think Diablo but with Pokémon moves!

But let’s talk about one of the biggest reveals—the starter Pokémon. This time, we’re getting a nostalgic mix from different generations: Chikorita , Tepig , and Totodile . If you grew up playing Gold & Silver or Black & White , this lineup is bound to bring back some memories. These three classic starters will be your first companions as you explore Lumiose and uncover whatever mysteries Z-A has in store.
Another cool detail? You won’t always need to battle to catch Pokémon! Just like in Pokémon Legends: Arceus , you can sneak up and throw a Poké Ball to capture wild Pokémon without a fight. That means more fluid gameplay, less grinding, and a whole new way to interact with the world.
Beyond Z-A , there’s more happening in the Pokémon universe. Pokémon Champions was announced—a new PvP competition that will let you battle with Pokémon from older games. And for fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game , new expansions are on the way, including Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and the Triumphant Light booster pack.
Oh, and if you love Pokémon outside of gaming, here’s something cool— Pokémon Concierge is getting new episodes on Netflix in September! Plus, we got a sneak peek at Dragonite and the Postman , an animated short from the studio behind Your Name , which you can watch on YouTube right now.
So yeah, Pokémon Day 2025 did not disappoint. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is coming later this year for the Switch, and from everything we’ve seen so far, it’s looking like a game that could shake up the franchise in the best way possible. Whether you’re here for the nostalgia, the new gameplay mechanics, or just the pure joy of Pokémon, there’s something to get excited about. What do you think—are you picking Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile?
