Rickie Fowler Withdraws from WM Phoenix Open Due to Illness

Rickie Fowler, a fan favorite on the PGA TOUR, has officially withdrawn from the 2025 WM Phoenix Open ahead of his second round, citing illness. This unexpected development comes after Fowler posted a 3-over 74 in his opening round at TPC Scottsdale, where he also made waves with his bold, head-to-toe camouflage outfit.

Set to tee off alongside Billy Horschel and Sahith Theegala on Friday morning, Fowler’s absence left the duo to continue as a twosome. His withdrawal marks yet another early exit from this tournament, where he’s struggled in recent years—failing to make the weekend in four of his last five appearances. Despite this, Fowler holds a special connection to the event, having won it in 2019 and finishing runner-up twice before.

Currently ranked 85th in the world and sitting at 91st in the FedExCup standings, Fowler has had a slow start to the 2025 season. He managed a T-21 finish at The American Express and a T-53 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am but has yet to find his groove. Fans were eager to see if he could turn things around in Scottsdale, a course where he's experienced both triumph and heartbreak.

Beyond his PGA TOUR commitments, Fowler has also been competing in TGL, the innovative indoor golf league where top players face off in a team-based format. His involvement with New York Golf Club in the league has kept him in the spotlight, even as he works to regain his best form on the traditional tour.

While his stay at this year’s WM Phoenix Open was brief, Fowler still managed to create a buzz with his striking camouflage ensemble—a collaboration between Puma and Realtree Golf. The outfit had social media buzzing and was one of the most talked-about fashion statements of the tournament.

Looking ahead, Fowler is expected to return to action at the Genesis Invitational, where he’s slated to compete on a sponsor’s exemption. Fans will be hoping for a stronger showing as he continues his 2025 campaign, aiming to climb back up the world rankings and reestablish himself among the PGA TOUR’s elite.
