Stephy Mavididi on Wenger’s Aura, Training with Ronaldo, and Life at Leicester

Stephy Mavididi's journey through football has been nothing short of incredible. From learning under Arsène Wenger at Arsenal to training alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus and now fighting for Leicester City in the Premier League, his career has taken him across some of Europe's biggest clubs.

As Leicester prepares to face Arsenal, Mavididi reflects on his early days at the Emirates. He speaks about the lessons he learned under Wenger, emphasizing the legendary manager’s ability to influence players without saying much. "Wenger had this aura. He wouldn’t say a word, but the moment he stepped onto the pitch, the tempo and quality of training would instantly rise," Mavididi recalls. He credits his time at Arsenal for instilling discipline and professionalism in him, qualities that shaped his career.

After Arsenal, he took an unexpected leap—moving to Juventus. It was here that he encountered another footballing icon: Cristiano Ronaldo. Mavididi still remembers training sessions with the Portuguese superstar. "We had a finishing drill, and usually, if you miss, the next person goes. But Ronaldo kept scoring—13 straight times from each side. We just stood there watching. We couldn’t get a chance!" he laughs.

Beyond the finishing drills, it was Ronaldo’s relentless work ethic that left a lasting impression. "Whether there was a crowd or not, he was the same. In the gym, after training, on the pitch—always working. That’s why he is where he is."

Mavididi’s time at Juventus was brief, and he moved to Montpellier in France before returning to England with Leicester. Last season, he played a crucial role in getting the Foxes back into the Premier League. But this campaign has been tougher. With a managerial change and inconsistent game time, he admits, "It’s frustrating. I know I can do more for the team. But football is about patience. When my chance comes, I’ll be ready."

Now, as Leicester battles to stay in the top flight, Mavididi has another challenge ahead: facing his boyhood club, Arsenal. With the Gunners struggling with injuries, could this be the moment he punishes his former side? Whatever happens, his journey—from a young hopeful at Arsenal to training with legends and now proving himself in the Premier League—is already an inspiring story.
