The 1% Club Fans Frustrated Over 'Stupidly Worded' Question and Lee Mack’s ‘Harsh’ Remark
Alright, let’s talk about The 1% Club —that ITV quiz show that really puts your brain to the test with logic-based questions. If you’ve seen it, you know the drill: 100 contestants go head-to-head, tackling a series of increasingly tricky questions, all for a shot at a whopping £100,000. Simple, right? Well, not always.
The latest episode (February 22) caused quite the stir, and not because of a mind-blowing final question—but because of the very first one. Fans were left frustrated over what they called a “stupidly worded” question, and on top of that, host Lee Mack’s response to one unlucky contestant didn’t sit well with some viewers.
So, here’s what went down. The show kicked off with a 90% question—meaning a question that, based on public polling, 90% of people should get right. It was a simple one on the surface:
"Which of these is the largest?"
Contestants had four choices:
A - Circle
B - Triangle
C - Rectangle
D - Square

Now, you might assume it was a question about shapes, but nope! The answer was C - Rectangle , because it has the most letters—making it the largest word . Clever? Maybe. Confusing? Absolutely. And apparently, it caught a lot of people off guard— 12 contestants got it wrong right off the bat .
Lee Mack didn’t let it slide either. He turned to one of the contestants who answered incorrectly—who also happened to be the fastest to lock in an answer—and had a cheeky dig, saying, "But clearly not today," when they mentioned they usually wear contact lenses.
Social media lit up with reactions. One viewer called the question "stupidly worded" and argued that it should have been phrased as "Which word is the longest?" instead of “Which is the largest?” Another admitted they got it wrong because they misunderstood it, while someone else proudly said, "That was an interesting first question... good thing I got it right though!"
But it wasn’t just the question that annoyed fans. Some thought Lee Mack was being a little too sharp with his comments, with one viewer tweeting, "Lee Mack is harsh tonight."
That said, not all was lost—one contestant managed to turn the tables on Lee later in the show with a riddle of their own: "Which is the softest nut?" After a moment of confusion, they revealed the answer— a doughnut . Fair play.
Love it or hate it, The 1% Club always gets people talking. And hey, if you want to see if you’d survive the first question, you can stream the latest episode on ITVX.
