Tsitsipas Faces a Tough Test Against Griekspoor in Rotterdam
Stefanos Tsitsipas is back in action at the ATP 500 Rotterdam Open, looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to the 2025 season. After a shocking first-round exit at the Australian Open against Alex Michelsen, the Greek star returned to winning ways with a convincing victory over Harold Mayot in his opening match. However, his next challenge is a far tougher one—home favorite Tallon Griekspoor.
Tsitsipas’ performance against Mayot was solid, showing glimpses of his best form. He dominated on serve, winning 87% of his first-serve points and not facing a single break point. Tennis analyst Nick Monroe even praised his ability to mix up his game, using spin effectively and controlling the rallies. That’s exactly what he’ll need to do against Griekspoor, who thrives on indoor hardcourts and will have the Dutch crowd behind him.

This will be the second meeting between Tsitsipas and Griekspoor, with their only previous clash coming at the 2023 Australian Open. Back then, Tsitsipas won comfortably in straight sets, but things could be very different this time around. Griekspoor has made Rotterdam one of his favorite hunting grounds, reaching the semifinals in both 2023 and 2024. He’s also coming off a hard-fought win over Matteo Berrettini, showing his resilience in pressure moments.
Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has struggled to find consistency in the past year. His backhand, once a reliable weapon, has become a weak point, especially on faster courts where he doesn’t have time to set up his shots. If Griekspoor can target that side and use his aggressive style to dictate play, he could pull off an upset.
This match has all the ingredients to be a thriller. The Dutch crowd will be electric, and Tsitsipas will need to silence them early if he wants to take control. If he plays like he did against Mayot, he has a great chance of advancing. But if Griekspoor gets into a rhythm and feeds off the energy of the home fans, we could see an exciting three-set battle.
Who do you think takes this one? Will Tsitsipas find his rhythm, or will Griekspoor continue his strong run in Rotterdam?
