Warwick Davis Honored with BAFTA Fellowship in Emotional Tribute

Warwick Davis, the beloved actor known for his roles in Willow , Harry Potter , and Star Wars , has received the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship—the British Academy's highest honor. When he first got the news, he couldn’t quite believe it. In a heartfelt moment on the red carpet, Davis shared that he was reading emails on his phone when he saw the message from BAFTA. At first, he thought it might be a scam, but after confirming the sender, excitement took over. "I jumped off the loo and ran around the house telling the kids and the dog," he joked.

During the ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Davis dedicated the award to his late wife, Samantha, who passed away last March at the age of 53. His voice trembled with emotion as he spoke about how much she had supported his career. "She always encouraged me to grab every opportunity with both hands," he said. "Since then, life has been pretty tough for me, but thanks to the support of our wonderful children, I’ve been able to keep going." His words touched everyone in the room, and he couldn’t hold back tears when thanking Ralph Fiennes for helping him "laugh and love again" after such a difficult loss.

Davis was presented the award by Harry Potter co-star Tom Felton, who fondly recalled Davis teaching him how to say Wingardium Leviosa properly. Felton praised him as an inspiration, saying, “In a world where you can be anything, be yourself.” A special tribute film played during the ceremony, featuring messages from Star Wars legends Mark Hamill and George Lucas, as well as director Ron Howard and Davis’ own children.

Reflecting on his career, Davis spoke about his journey from playing an Ewok in Return of the Jedi at just 11 years old to leading Willow and becoming one of the most recognizable fantasy actors. He also hinted at the possibility of returning to the Harry Potter universe for the upcoming TV series, saying, "I’d never say never. I love working."

Beyond acting, Davis has been a champion for the short-statured community, founding Little People UK and the Reduced Height Theatre Company. His dedication to advocacy and entertainment makes this BAFTA Fellowship a well-deserved honor. With a career that has spanned decades and touched millions, Warwick Davis continues to inspire, entertain, and make history.
