Bouchard Seals OT Thriller as Oilers Edge Canadiens
What a game in Edmonton! The Oilers, desperate for a win after a rough stretch, pulled off a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory against the red-hot Montreal Canadiens. And who else but Evan Bouchard to be the hero? With just seconds left in OT, Bouchard buried a perfect cross-ice feed from Connor McDavid, sending Oilers fans into a frenzy.
This win couldn’t have come at a better time for Edmonton. They had dropped six of their last seven games, while the Canadiens were riding a five-game winning streak. But the Oilers stepped up when it mattered most. Leon Draisaitl, leading the league in goals, found the back of the net again, making it his 46th of the season. Corey Perry also contributed with a key goal, and McDavid was all over the ice, dishing out two crucial assists, including the game-winner.
Defense had been an issue for the Oilers in recent games, but they locked things down when it mattered. Bouchard himself acknowledged how crucial it was to keep the Canadiens' offense in check. "If you’re letting in two goals or less, chances are you’re going to win," he said postgame. And that’s exactly what happened.

Goaltender Stuart Skinner, who had been struggling to find a win, had a strong performance with 26 saves. His reaction after the game said it all—pure relief. "It felt fantastic. I haven't gotten a win in a while, so when Bouch put that puck in the net … I was extremely happy."
Another notable moment? Newly acquired forward Max Jones made his Oilers debut and wasted no time making an impact. He recorded his first assist of the season with a beautiful stretch pass that set up Perry’s goal. "I felt good out there," Jones said. "I just wanted to come in, play my game, and enjoy it."
This win could be exactly what Edmonton needed to get back on track. Head coach Kris Knoblauch hopes this is the turning point. "When things aren’t going well and you’re losing games, confidence dips, execution suffers. But tonight, we took a step in the right direction."
And just when you thought the Oilers were done making moves, they pulled off another trade, acquiring defenseman Jake Walman from the San Jose Sharks just before the deadline. With the playoffs approaching, Edmonton seems determined to make a push.
One thing’s for sure—if McDavid and Bouchard keep connecting like they did in overtime, the Oilers will be a tough team to stop.
