British Airways to Launch Direct Flights Between Kolkata and London
Exciting news for travelers! British Airways is set to introduce direct biweekly flights between Kolkata and London, following a request by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. During her recent visit to London, Mamata Banerjee actively pushed for the reinstatement of direct flights between Kolkata and the UK. Addressing investors at the High Commission of India in London, she emphasized the need for a more convenient air route to foster economic and cultural ties. She also highlighted the inconvenience caused by the recent fire and power outage at London’s Heathrow Airport, which extended her journey from the usual eight hours to a grueling 18-hour trip.

However, British Airways has yet to issue an official confirmation regarding the timeline for these flights.
Mamata Banerjee’s commitment to improving international connectivity for Bengal has been evident for some time. Earlier this year, at the Bengal Global Business Summit, she had reached out to the Chairperson of Tata Sons, requesting direct flights between West Bengal and Europe through Air India. She even assured fuel concessions to airlines willing to operate direct routes, demonstrating her proactive approach to boosting travel and investment in the state.
