DeMarcus Lawrence Leaves Cowboys, Set to Join Seahawks in 2025
Well, Cowboys fans, it’s officially the end of an era. DeMarcus Lawrence, a key force in Dallas' defense for over a decade, is moving on. Reports confirm that the four-time Pro Bowl defensive end has agreed to a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks in free agency. And just like that, one of the longest-tenured Cowboys is heading to the Pacific Northwest.
Lawrence’s departure isn’t just another free agency move—it marks a significant shift for the Cowboys’ defense. Drafted in the second round back in 2014, Lawrence quickly established himself as a dominant pass rusher. He racked up 61.5 sacks during his 11 seasons with the team, earning multiple Pro Bowl honors and solidifying his reputation as one of the league’s most consistent defensive ends. Not to mention, he was named an All-Pro in 2017, proving he was a true cornerstone of Dallas’ defense.

The 2024 season, however, was a tough one for Lawrence. A foot injury in Week 4 sidelined him for most of the year, and with the Cowboys struggling, there wasn’t much incentive for a return late in the season. Still, Lawrence made it clear—he wasn’t done. He still had plenty left in the tank, and now he’s set to prove it with the Seahawks.
In Seattle, Lawrence will reunite with former Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde, who took over as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator in 2024. That familiarity should help him settle in quickly. Plus, he’ll be joining a talented defensive unit that already features Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II, Jarran Reed, and Uchenna Nwosu. With that lineup, the Seahawks are looking to build a formidable front.
