Elon Musk Claims X Hit by Massive Cyber-Attack
Hey everyone, big news today! If you've been trying to log into X, formerly known as Twitter, and found yourself staring at a never-ending loading screen, you’re not alone. Thousands of users across the US and UK reported that the platform was down, and now, Elon Musk has come forward with an explanation. According to him, X was hit by a ‘massive cyber-attack’ that may have been carried out by a large, coordinated group—or even a nation-state.
Musk took to X itself to break the news, saying, “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources.” He hinted that this wasn’t just a regular outage but something much bigger. Downdetector, a service that tracks online outages, recorded tens of thousands of reports from users experiencing technical issues, with reports peaking around 14:00 GMT.

During the outage, people attempting to refresh their feeds were met with endless loading icons or error messages. Alp Toker, the director of NetBlocks, a company that monitors internet connectivity, suggested that the disruptions align with patterns seen in past distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. In simpler terms, this could have been an attempt to overwhelm X’s servers with massive amounts of traffic, making it impossible for users to access the platform.
Interestingly, Musk has previously mentioned that X has been targeted by cyber-attacks, but there has never been solid confirmation. This time, he’s doubling down, even suggesting that the attack may have originated from Ukraine, though he didn’t provide any concrete evidence. His claims come at a time when X has been under significant scrutiny, and let’s not forget his other ventures, like Tesla and SpaceX, are also facing challenges. Just a few days ago, a SpaceX rocket exploded mid-flight, and Tesla has been dealing with protests and declining stock prices.
Of course, speculation is running wild. Some believe this could be politically motivated, while others think it’s just another attempt to shift the blame for the platform’s recurring technical issues. Whatever the case, this is one of the longest outages X has seen in a while, lasting for more than six hours and affecting users globally.
So, what does this mean for the future of X? Well, if these attacks continue, it could push Musk and his team to ramp up cybersecurity measures. Or, if it turns out to be an internal issue, X might need to seriously address its infrastructure stability. One thing is for sure: the drama surrounding Musk and his platforms never seems to stop.
Were you affected by the outage? What do you think about Musk’s claims? Let’s talk about it!
