First Alert Weather Day: Severe Storms Threaten Nashville and Middle Tennessee
Good evening, everyone. We are currently under a First Alert Weather Day , and things are getting intense across Nashville and the surrounding areas. If you’re just tuning in, here’s the latest on the severe weather situation unfolding right now.
Tonight’s storms have been rapidly developing, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and the potential for tornadoes. Already, multiple Tornado Warnings and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. These storms are packing a punch, with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
As of the latest updates, a Tornado Watch has been lifted for several counties, but new warnings continue to pop up. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued for Maury, Giles, Bedford, and Rutherford counties —so if you're in those areas, stay indoors and take shelter. Tornado Warnings have also been issued for parts of Lewis, Lawrence, and Wayne counties. If you’re in an affected area, make sure you are in a safe place away from windows and in a sturdy shelter.

These storms are expected to sweep through Nashville, Gallatin, Franklin, Columbia, and Lawrenceburg over the next few hours, moving eastward between 10 PM and 4 AM. The most severe threats will occur between 11 PM and 5 AM for southern and southeastern Middle Tennessee. Heavy rainfall may lead to ponding on roads, poor visibility, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Looking ahead, Wednesday also has the potential for another round of severe storms. A First Alert Weather Day has already been declared, with forecasts indicating possible damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes. This system will primarily affect the northwestern parts of Tennessee before shifting southeastward overnight. Temperatures are expected to be warm and windy, with highs reaching 84°F.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to prepare. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, whether through a weather radio, mobile alerts, or local news updates. If you don’t have to be on the roads, avoid travel when these storms hit. Your safety is the top priority.
We will continue to bring you live updates throughout the night as more information comes in. Stay tuned to WSMV 4 and the First Alert Weather Team for real-time coverage, radar updates, and emergency alerts. Be safe out there, Nashville!
