Hannah Berner’s Awkward Megan Thee Stallion Interview Sparks Backlash
Alright, let’s talk about this Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty moment that’s been making waves online. So, comedian and Summer House alum Hannah Berner, along with her Giggly Squad co-host Paige DeSorbo, were on the red carpet doing interviews. Everything seemed fine—until their chat with Megan Thee Stallion took a weird turn.
Paige started off fangirling, saying she starts her day with Megan’s music, which is totally fair. But then Hannah jumped in with, “Your music has literally made me, like, when I want to fight someone, I listen to your music.” And Megan, being the queen that she is, immediately shut that down. She responded, “You want to throw that fighting shit out the window. You want to get cute and be a bad bitch.”
Now, at this point, most people would take the hint, right? But nope, Hannah doubled down, saying, “When people are talking shit, I go, ‘Turn on Megan Thee Stallion!’” Megan handled it gracefully, singing, “Body-ody-ody, I look beautiful, I look so great,” and just moving on.

But social media? Not so forgiving. Fans called out the interview as cringey at best and full of microaggressions at worst. People were questioning why Hannah would even associate Megan’s music with fighting when her whole brand is about confidence, empowerment, and being that girl. Some pointed out that Megan has never really made music about fighting—her songs are about being confident, sexy, and in control.
And then there’s the bigger issue. Megan has been literally a victim of violence—Tory Lanez was sentenced to ten years for shooting her in 2020. She’s talked extensively about the trauma from that experience, even in her Amazon Prime documentary. So for Hannah to casually bring up fighting in connection with Megan’s music? Yeah, people weren’t having it.
To make matters worse, this wasn’t the only awkward moment from the Vanity Fair interviews. Hannah and Paige also asked Insecure actor Jay Ellis if he was single—when he’s very publicly married. So now people are wondering if these two were really the best choice for red carpet correspondents.
As of now, neither Hannah nor Vanity Fair has addressed the backlash, but the internet is definitely talking. What do you think? Was this just an awkward moment, or was there something deeper going on?
