Ice Cube Trapped in Gold Coast Hotel as Cyclone Alfred Approaches

Hey everyone, let's talk about the crazy weather situation unfolding in Australia right now. Tropical Cyclone Alfred, one of the most intense storms to hit the region in decades, is bearing down on the east coast, and guess who’s caught right in the middle of it? None other than American rapper and actor Ice Cube.

During an appearance on The Project on Wednesday night, Ice Cube revealed that he’s currently stuck in his hotel on the Gold Coast as the cyclone moves closer. He seemed pretty relaxed about it, though, even joking that he could check "experiencing a cyclone" off his bucket list. But make no mistake—this storm is serious.

Cyclone Alfred, currently classified as a category two system, is packing winds of up to 155 km/h and is expected to make landfall between Coolangatta and Maroochydore on Friday. Some reports initially predicted a Thursday arrival, but the storm has slightly shifted its path. Queensland and northern New South Wales are bracing for impact, with emergency warnings in place and authorities urging people to prepare while there’s still time.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that the storm’s far western edge is already hitting coastal areas from Coolangatta to Ballina, bringing heavy rainfall, powerful winds, and dangerous storm surges. Ballina is expected to see between 35-110mm of rain on Thursday, with wind gusts reaching 130 km/h, and the conditions are only expected to worsen.

And it’s not just Ice Cube caught up in this. Several celebrities and high-profile Australians own properties in the cyclone’s path, including Thor star Chris Hemsworth, Today host Karl Stefanovic, and former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Hemsworth’s $50 million Byron Bay mansion, Stefanovic’s $3.6 million holiday home in Noosa, and Rudd’s beachfront residence are all at risk.

As for Ice Cube, he’s in Australia for his tour, with shows scheduled in Sydney on Friday and Melbourne on Sunday. Whether those concerts will go ahead remains to be seen, depending on how severe the storm’s impact is.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has urged residents to finalize their preparations as the window for action is quickly closing. “By tomorrow afternoon, preparing your house will be very difficult,” he warned. Authorities are encouraging people to secure their homes, stock up on supplies, and stay updated on emergency alerts.

With flights being canceled, public transport disrupted, and evacuations being considered in some areas, it’s clear that Cyclone Alfred is a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully, everyone—including Ice Cube—stays safe as this powerful storm makes its way to shore. Stay tuned for updates, and if you’re in the affected areas, take precautions and stay indoors!
