Jamie Laing's Epic Comic Relief Challenge Raises Over £2 Million
Wow, what an incredible feat! Jamie Laing, the beloved BBC Radio 1 presenter and former Made in Chelsea star, has just completed an awe-inspiring challenge for Comic Relief, raising more than £2 million for charity. Can you imagine running five ultra marathons in five days? That’s a staggering 150 miles (241km) from London to Salford, and he did it all for a good cause.
Jamie crossed the finish line on Friday, completely exhausted but overwhelmingly emotional. He described the journey as a "wild ride," filled with intense moments, physical exhaustion, and emotional highs. Despite never having run more than 5km (3.1 miles) before this, he pushed himself to the limit, showing us all what determination truly looks like.
The support along the way was just phenomenal. His wife, Sophie Habboo, was there to cheer him on, and he was met by fellow BBC Radio 1 DJs Greg James, Vick Hope, and Jeremiah Asiamah. Speaking about the challenge, Jamie admitted that there was a point where he thought he was finished, both mentally and physically. But something deep inside kept him going. That final kilometre? He called it the most euphoric experience of his life.

The fundraising total hit an astonishing £2,053,835, adding even more excitement as Red Nose Day celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The milestone was marked with a night of spectacular live TV performances, comedy sketches, and heartfelt stories, all in the spirit of raising funds for those in need.
Throughout the challenge, Jamie opened up about his struggles with mental health, speaking candidly about living with anxiety in his twenties. His honesty resonated deeply with fans and supporters, reminding everyone that being vulnerable and talking about mental health is a sign of strength. He dedicated his run to those battling loneliness, anxiety, depression, OCD, and insomnia, reinforcing the importance of supporting mental health initiatives.
The journey itself was filled with unforgettable moments. At the starting line in London, he was greeted by a sea of lookalikes—50 people wearing blonde Jamie Laing wigs in Hyde Park! By day three, he hit a wall and confessed to BBC Radio 1 listeners that he felt like quitting. But he reminded himself: "I have to get through this… it’s only temporary."
Listeners rallied behind him, helping to raise an incredible £450,000 at one point, prompting Greg James to join Jamie for the final stretch—in a wedding dress, no less! It was a brilliant and hilarious moment that captured the essence of Comic Relief—bringing people together, making them laugh, and supporting meaningful causes.
Jamie’s resilience, determination, and willingness to be vulnerable have inspired so many. As he crossed that finish line in Salford, it was clear that this wasn’t just about running—it was about proving that anything is possible when people come together for a cause greater than themselves.
So, hats off to Jamie Laing and everyone who supported this monumental challenge. And remember, it’s never too late to donate and be part of something truly special. Let’s keep the spirit of Comic Relief alive!
