Lakers Edge Out Knicks in OT Thriller as Dončić and LeBron Shine

Once in OT, New York’s Jalen Brunson gave everything he had. He scored all eight of the Knicks’ overtime points, trying to will his team to victory. But then, disaster struck. With just over a minute left, Brunson drove to the basket, got fouled by Austin Reaves, and landed awkwardly, rolling his ankle. He hit his free throws but had to limp off to the locker room immediately after. That was a tough blow for the Knicks, and without their All-Star guard, they just couldn’t hold on.
From there, the Lakers took care of business. LeBron knocked down four clutch free throws in the final 40 seconds, sealing the win and pushing LA’s record to 40-21. Dončić was everywhere—finishing with 32 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds, and four steals. LeBron was just as dominant, dropping 31 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists, barely missing a triple-double.
For the Knicks, Brunson was a warrior. He put up 39 points and 10 assists before his injury, and his absence in the closing moments was a huge turning point. They had chances to win, including a final possession in regulation where Josh Hart couldn’t get a shot off in time. That one’s going to sting for New York, as they fall to 40-22, still holding the third seed in the East.
Now, looking ahead, the Knicks don’t get much time to recover. They’ve got a back-to-back, facing the Clippers next. The Lakers, on the other hand, are gearing up for a massive showdown with the Boston Celtics on Saturday—one of the most historic rivalries in basketball.
