Netherlands Gears Up for ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 Clash in Namibia
Exciting news in the world of cricket! The Netherlands has officially announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 matches set to take place in Namibia. This tournament is crucial for their journey toward the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup, and they are ready to face Canada and Namibia in a series of high-stakes encounters.
From March 5 to 13, the Dutch team will be battling it out at the Wanderers Sports Club in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital. They will play two ODIs against Namibia on March 7 and 13, along with two crucial matches against Canada on March 5 and 11. With every game carrying significant weight, the Netherlands will be aiming for big wins to climb the points table and secure their spot in the global qualifiers.
One of the key highlights of the squad announcement is the return of Fred Klaassen, who is set to play his first 50-over match in almost two years. Additionally, young talent Zach Lion-Cachet has earned his maiden ODI call-up, adding a fresh spark to the team. However, notable omissions include Brandon Glover, Shariz Ahmad, and Clayton Floyd, who were previously part of the Dutch bowling camp in Cape Town.

Head coach Ryan Cook expressed confidence in his team’s preparation, stating that they have worked hard throughout the winter and honed their skills during a training camp in Cape Town. With a well-balanced squad, he believes they are ready to adapt to the conditions and take on the challenges that lie ahead.
Currently, the Netherlands sits in fifth place on the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 points table with 14 points from 12 games. With seven wins and five losses so far, they need a strong performance in Namibia to break into the top four. That would keep their hopes alive for the global qualifiers leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup, set to be hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
The Netherlands previously featured in the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup in India after finishing as the second-best team in the global qualifiers. Despite ending the tournament in tenth place, they made a mark with two impressive wins, including a memorable victory over South Africa. Now, they are looking to build on that experience and secure another shot at the grand stage in 2027.
