Passport Fees Are Increasing – Here’s What You Need to Know
Hey everyone, if you’re planning to renew your passport or apply for a new one, listen up—changes are coming! The UK government has announced an increase in passport application fees, set to take effect on April 10, 2025. These changes, pending parliamentary approval, will affect both standard and premium services, whether you're applying within the UK or from overseas.
So, let’s break it down. If you're applying online from within the UK, the cost for an adult passport will go up from £88.50 to £94.50, while a child’s passport will increase from £57.50 to £61.50. If you prefer the postal application route, the fee for adults will rise from £100 to £107, and for children, it will increase from £69 to £74.

Now, for those who need their passports urgently, the Premium Service (which offers a one-day turnaround) will also see a price hike. For adults, the cost will jump from £207.50 to £222, while for children, it will go from £176.50 to £189. If you’re applying from overseas, be prepared for an increase too. A standard online adult application will rise from £101 to £108, and for children, it will increase from £65.50 to £70. The paper application fees for overseas applicants will also go up—from £112.50 to £120.50 for adults and from £77 to £82.50 for children.
So, why are these changes happening? According to the Home Office, the increased fees will help cover the cost of processing applications, providing consular support for lost or stolen passports, and managing British citizens at UK borders. The government emphasizes that it does not profit from passport applications—these fees are simply meant to ensure the system can sustain itself without relying on taxpayer funding.
A quick reminder—if you're planning any travel, it’s always a good idea to apply for your passport well in advance. In 2024, 99.7% of standard applications were processed within three weeks when no additional information was required. However, to avoid any last-minute stress, make sure to apply early!
That’s all for now—stay informed and plan ahead!
