Pierce Brosnan’s Stark Warning to the Next James Bond
Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has spoken out about the iconic 007 role, offering words of advice and caution to the actor who will take over from Daniel Craig. While appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show , Brosnan, now 71, reflected on his time as Bond, reminiscing about the highs and challenges of portraying the legendary spy. Having starred in five Bond films between 1995 and 2002, he knows better than most what the role entails.
Brosnan began by acknowledging the impact the role had on his life and career. “Bond is with me for life. It was great. A magical time,” he admitted. He credited the franchise for opening doors and allowing him to explore other creative opportunities, but he was also quick to warn that the role is not for the faint of heart.

“You live with the injuries… Playing that role, you will get hurt, there’s no question about it. You have to have stamina,” Brosnan warned. He recalled a particularly grueling experience from The World Is Not Enough , where he filmed an intense boat chase scene. “I was strapped in double, double, with oxygen tanks ready. They told me, ‘If you flip, you’re going to the hospital to have your stomach pumped.’” Despite precautions, he still suffered injuries, including a facial wound that required stitches.
While Brosnan made it clear he has no intention of returning as an older Bond, he teased, “No one’s spoken to me about it, but they know where to find me.” However, he firmly stated that the next 007 will be someone else’s responsibility. “It’s another man’s job. I’ve done it, it was wonderful.”
When asked about the next Bond, Brosnan endorsed British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has long been rumored as a frontrunner. “I think he would make a very fine Bond. He had this charisma, this presence even back when we worked together.” While he acknowledged that many actors are in contention, he seemed confident in Taylor-Johnson’s potential.
Brosnan also voiced concerns about Amazon’s creative control over the franchise, emphasizing that the next Bond must remain distinctly British. As the speculation over the next 007 continues, Brosnan’s insights serve as a reminder that the role is more than just a title—it’s a physically demanding and career-defining commitment. Whoever steps into Bond’s shoes next must be ready for the challenge.
