RCB Ends 17-Year Drought with Thrilling Win Over CSK in IPL 2025
What a night of cricket it was at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai! Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally broke their 17-year jinx at this venue with a stunning 50-run victory over Chennai Super Kings. This was only their second-ever win in Chennai, with their last triumph dating back to IPL 2008.
Batting first, RCB put up a solid total of 196/7 in their 20 overs. The star of the show was Rajat Patidar, who led from the front with a well-crafted 51 off 32 balls. They lost two early wickets in the second over itself when Josh Hazlewood dismissed both Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad, reducing them to a shaky 8/2. From there, CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals, failing to build any significant partnerships. At one point, they were tottering at 99/7, making the chase nearly impossible.
The only bright spot for CSK fans came in the form of MS Dhoni, who gave them something to cheer about in the final overs. Walking in with his team needing 98 runs in just 28 balls, Dhoni played a brief but entertaining knock of 30 off 16 balls, including two massive sixes and a four. However, it was too little, too late, as CSK ended their innings at 146/8, falling well short of the target.
For RCB, it was their bowlers who sealed the deal. Josh Hazlewood was outstanding, picking up 3 wickets for just 21 runs, while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone contributed with two wickets each, ensuring CSK never gained any momentum in the chase.
