Rhian Brewster’s Redemption: A Derby Winner and a Fresh Start
Rhian Brewster is still buzzing from his match-winning goal in the Steel City derby against Sheffield Wednesday. It may not have been the most spectacular strike of his career, but for him, it meant everything. After years of battling injuries and setbacks, that goal was more than just three points—it was a statement.
"One of the staff here asked me how many times I've watched it, and I told him, 'not enough'," Brewster said with a smile. "Missing the first game at Bramall Lane was frustrating, so to come into this one, score the winner, and hear the fans chanting my name—it was unbelievable."

Brewster's time at Sheffield United has been a rollercoaster. Since his high-profile move from Liverpool in 2020, expectations were massive. But injuries have robbed him of crucial years, sidelining him for nearly half of United’s matches during his tenure. Now, though, things seem to be turning around.
“You feel like you’ve lost a few years with injuries, but I always try to look at the bigger picture,” he admitted. "It felt like every time I was getting back to my best, another setback would come. But that’s in the past now—I can't change it. What I can do is push forward."
This season has been Brewster’s most promising yet. With 29 league appearances, three goals, and three assists, he's played a crucial role in Sheffield United’s campaign. "I just want to keep playing, scoring, and influencing games," he said. "The more I play, the more confidence I have in my body. It’s about trusting myself again."
Approaching his 25th birthday, Brewster still believes he can reach the heights he once showed at Liverpool and for England’s youth teams. "I’ve never stopped believing in myself," he said. "It’s about staying fit, taking care of my body, and knowing when to rest. I used to push myself too hard, but now I understand that sometimes less is more."
Beyond his form, another key question lingers—his contract. With his deal expiring at the end of the season, discussions are underway about his future at Bramall Lane. "Right now, I’m focused on finishing the season strong, but I know the club is talking about a new contract," he revealed. "I love it here, I love the fans—you saw that in the derby."
For Brewster, that night at Hillsborough was more than just a goal. It was proof that he still has what it takes. And if he continues on this path, there could be many more memorable moments ahead.
