It all started in the second quarter with Detroit leading 39-30. Ron Holland II fouled Naz Reid as he drove to the basket. Reid, clearly unhappy, pointed at Holland, and before you knew it, Donte DiVincenzo jumped in to de-escalate—well, at least that’s what it looked like at first. But things quickly spiraled out of control. A shoving match broke out, players started piling in, and the altercation even spilled into the first row of the crowd! The officials and security had to step in to break things up, and after sorting through the chaos, five players and two coaches were sent packing.

For Detroit, head coach JB Bickerstaff, Isaiah Stewart, Holland, and Marcus Sasser were all ejected. On the Minnesota side, Reid, DiVincenzo, and assistant coach Pablo Prigioni were given the boot. The Timberwolves, however, found a way to use the drama as fuel, storming back to win the game 123-104.

After the game, Bickerstaff defended his team’s actions, saying they stood their ground and had each other’s backs. While he admitted things got out of hand, he emphasized the importance of defending teammates. On the other side, Minnesota’s head coach Chris Finch saw it coming. He called the situation “dangerous” and blamed Detroit’s physicality for escalating the game to that point.

At the end of the day, this was more than just a heated game—it was a statement. The Timberwolves showed resilience, improving their record to 43-32 and tightening their grip on a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, Detroit will have to shake this off quickly, as they head to Oklahoma City to take on the top-seeded Thunder. But one thing’s for sure—this matchup won’t be forgotten anytime soon. And with potential fines and suspensions looming, the fallout from this fiery battle is far from over.
