Spring Sunshine to Brighten Mother's Day in the UK

As we step into Mother’s Day weekend, there’s some good news for those planning outdoor celebrations. After a mixed and somewhat unsettled Saturday, forecasters are predicting a return of spring sunshine just in time for Sunday. Meteorologists say the UK will see temperatures rise, bringing what could be the warmest day of the year so far.

According to Sky Weather’s Kirsty McCabe, Sunday will start with some low cloud and drizzle, but that will clear to reveal bright or sunny spells throughout most of the country. Temperatures are expected to be near or above average, offering a pleasant backdrop for Mother’s Day outings. The warm spell is set to continue into next week, with high pressure dominating and a potential peak temperature surpassing 21.3°C, the current highest mark for 2025 recorded on March 20th.

The Met Office also supports this optimistic outlook, predicting a shift back to stable, warm conditions after a brief spell of unsettled weather. While some areas in the far north and west may experience cloudier, windier conditions with a chance of rain, central and inland regions are expected to enjoy the best of the sunshine.

Looking ahead to next week, forecasters are seeing signs that temperatures could climb even higher, possibly reaching 22°C in some areas. This is thanks to a combination of high pressure and south-easterly winds bringing warmer air from continental Europe. If these predictions hold, this could mark the hottest period of the year so far.

While this warm spell is a welcome change, it does come with some seasonal challenges. With rising temperatures and prolonged sunshine, pollen levels are expected to be high, which could be a concern for hay fever sufferers. Additionally, as the sun gains strength, UV levels may also rise, so it’s a good idea to keep sun protection in mind.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the overall forecast looks promising for those hoping to enjoy some quality time with loved ones outdoors this Mother’s Day. Whether it's a park picnic, a stroll through the countryside, or simply basking in the sunshine, it seems the weather is set to cooperate beautifully.

So, get ready to celebrate Mother’s Day with a bit of warmth and brightness—spring is finally making its return!
