Strong Winds and Rain Impact Neuquén and Río Negro
This weekend, strong winds have swept across Neuquén and Río Negro, prompting an official yellow alert from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) . The wind has significantly affected various regions, including Alto Valle, Bariloche, and the Lanín National Park , where an ongoing wildfire has been further complicated by the harsh weather conditions.
On Sunday , wind gusts exceeded 50 km/h , making firefighting efforts even more challenging in areas like Junín de los Andes . The intense winds led authorities to pause on-ground operations , leaving only aerial resources to combat the flames. Fortunately, there is some relief expected on Monday , though conditions will remain unstable.

For Monday, the wind intensity is expected to decrease , but strong gusts will persist , particularly in the Andean region . According to forecasts, gusts in Alto Valle—covering cities like Neuquén, Cipolletti, and Roca —could reach up to 31 km/h during the morning and afternoon, before dropping to around 11-9 km/h by nightfall. Meanwhile, temperatures in the region will hover around 28°C , maintaining warm conditions.
In Bariloche , a mix of rain and wind is anticipated throughout the day. The SMN predicts a 20-40% chance of showers , with wind gusts fluctuating between 20 km/h and 60 km/h , peaking in the morning. The temperature will not exceed 16°C , bringing a much-needed cooldown after a period of dryness.
As for the Lanín National Park , which has been severely affected by wildfires, Monday’s forecast remains uncertain. While some agencies predict winds reaching up to 60 km/h in the morning , others suggest a maximum of 39 km/h . There is also a chance of rain , which could help contain the fire but may also create difficulties for emergency teams.
Despite the gradual improvement in weather conditions , authorities urge residents to stay cautious , especially in areas prone to fire and strong wind impacts. People should secure loose objects, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and stay updated on official reports. The combination of wind and rain may offer some relief, but the region will need continued efforts to fully stabilize after these extreme conditions.
