Tyler Lockett Hits Free Agency – A Perfect Fit for the Cowboys?

Big news in the NFL today—longtime Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett has been released after an incredible 10-year run. And guess what? The Dallas Cowboys might have just been handed the perfect WR2 for their offense.

Lockett has been a staple in Seattle, racking up 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns over the years. But with his role shrinking and the Seahawks making cap-saving moves, they’ve let him go. Of course, it didn’t take long for Lockett to respond with a heartfelt farewell to Seattle, thanking the team, the fans, and most importantly, giving glory to God. That kind of attitude, paired with his on-field talent, makes him a player any team would be lucky to have.

Now, here’s where things get really interesting. Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys' offensive coordinator, was in Seattle during Lockett’s most productive years. From 2018 to 2020, Lockett was an absolute beast, posting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. That’s no coincidence—Schottenheimer’s system brought out the best in him. And now, the Cowboys are in the market for another reliable wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb. Could Lockett be the answer?

Dallas has been eyeing receiver help, and this opportunity feels almost too perfect. Lockett wouldn’t need to be the number one guy—he’d slot in as a veteran presence, capable of stretching the field, running crisp routes, and making clutch plays. Not to mention, he should come at a reasonable price, given his age and the market.

The big question now: will the Cowboys make a move? They’ve got other priorities, like restructuring Dak Prescott’s contract and addressing needs in the draft, but a proven veteran like Lockett doesn’t hit the open market every day. If Dallas wants to make a serious push in 2025, this could be the missing piece. Let’s see if Jerry Jones and company take the bait.
