Epic Universe Nears Grand Opening With New Passes, Makeup Experience & More Magic

Alright, so here’s the latest buzz from Universal Orlando that’s got theme park fans totally hyped— Epic Universe is finally set to open next month , and things are moving fast behind the scenes. The excitement’s real, especially with the newest updates dropping this week.

Let’s start with the big one— Universal Express passes are officially on sale for Epic Universe! Now, if you tried snagging one for opening day, you’re already too late—it’s sold out. But don’t worry, single-use Express is still available for other dates. That means you can skip the regular lines once per ride. Prices start around $129.99 per person per day, though they shot up to $260 for those early access days. And here’s the catch—three big rides won’t accept Express at all: Dragon Racer’s Rally, Mine-Cart Madness, and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry . So, plan accordingly if those are on your must-do list.

Another add-on that’s catching everyone’s attention is the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience . It’s spooky, it’s theatrical, and it’s super cool. You can choose between a basic face paint package called “The Experiment” at $45, or go full-out monster mode with the $169 package that includes costume accessories. You get transformed into legendary Universal Monsters like Dracula or Frankenstein, and it only takes about 20 minutes. Perfect for content, too.

Now, hotel-wise, Universal’s Terra Luna Resort is open for guests. It's the latest to launch, following Stella Nova. These Prime Value hotels offer a sleek stay starting at $147 a night. And coming up soon is the Helios Grand Hotel , opening the same day as Epic Universe—May 22nd. That’s the one located right in the park, so you’ll be in the middle of the action.

Construction updates? Oh, they’re in full swing. Even as Team Member previews continue, workers are sneaking in last-minute polish—like pressure-washing pathways in Celestial Park, adding trees, flowers, signs, and even installing a final animatronic dragon. At night, the lighting effects across the park are being tested, and they’re seriously impressive. Think colorful pavement, animated signs, and dancing fountains. It’s like watching the future of theme parks come alive.

Over in Super Nintendo World , more paint and props are going up daily, from new seating areas to themed retail carts under Yoshi’s ride track. In Dark Universe , the Monsters Unchained attraction façade is getting finished touches, blending into the eerie backdrop. And yes, dragon drones are real—WESH 2 News spotted one modeled after Hookfang from How to Train Your Dragon . It looks insanely detailed.

And just to hype it up even more, Universal is taking the show on the road with the Epic Universe Portal Tour . A massive 30-foot replica of the Chronos portal is traveling to cities like Atlanta and New York, giving people a chance to peek inside the worlds of Epic Universe before they open. Photo ops, sneak peeks, and even a shot at winning a trip—it’s all part of the build-up.

So yeah, Universal’s Epic Universe is not just another park—it’s shaping up to be an entirely next-level experience. May 22nd can’t come soon enough.
