Gauthier's Heroics Lead Ducks to 4-3 OT Win Over Flames
The Anaheim Ducks pulled off a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, with Cutter Gauthier sealing the win with a second goal in overtime, continuing his hot streak. With the win, the Ducks brought some much-needed excitement to the Honda Center, though the Flames are still in the midst of a challenging push for a playoff spot.
Gauthier's game-winning goal came at 1:11 of the overtime period. He took a crisp pass from teammate Leo Carlsson during a fast break and unleashed a wrist shot from the slot that beat Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf, sending the Ducks' fans into a frenzy. This was Gauthier's second consecutive game with two goals, and his performance was a key factor in the Ducks' comeback, as the Flames seemed to be in control late in the third period.

Calgary had built a 3-1 lead after two quick goals by Yegor Sharangovich and Matt Coronato in a span of just 1:42 in the third. It looked like the Flames would leave Anaheim with a vital win to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, Anaheim wasn't done yet. With just 3:57 left on the clock, Frank Vatrano fired a one-timer from the right circle, cutting Calgary's lead to 3-2. Then, just eight seconds later, Gauthier scored again from the edge of the left circle to tie the game at 3-3, sending the game into overtime.
Ville Husso was solid between the pipes for Anaheim, making 36 saves in the win, while Wolf stopped 19 shots for Calgary. The game was a nail-biter, with both teams trading momentum swings, but it was the Ducks who came out on top.
The Flames, sitting five points behind the St. Louis Blues for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, now find themselves facing even greater pressure. Despite a solid effort, including a goal and assist from Mikael Backlund, they will need to regroup quickly. With two games in hand, they still have a chance, but this overtime loss adds another challenge to their playoff push.
On the other hand, the Ducks, now 35-35-8, showed resilience and gave their fans something to cheer for, bouncing back after a couple of tough losses. With the win, they remain outside the playoff picture but can take pride in a thrilling, come-from-behind victory.
Looking ahead, the Flames will face the Minnesota Wild on Friday, while the Ducks will head to Los Angeles on Thursday for their next game. Both teams know that every point is crucial as the regular season winds down and the race for the playoffs intensifies.
