Kraken Shut Out Canucks as Playoff Hopes Dwindle
Vancouver fans had a tough night as the Canucks struggled in a crucial matchup against the Seattle Kraken, falling 5-0 at Rogers Arena. With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, this loss marked Vancouver’s third straight defeat, pushing them further back in the wild-card race. Meanwhile, Seattle, despite being eliminated from postseason contention, played with intensity and took control of the game early on.
Joey Daccord was the star of the night for the Kraken, making 24 saves and securing his second shutout of the season. He credited his teammates for a strong defensive effort, stating, "A shutout is always a team result. The guys were amazing, blocking shots, keeping chances to the outside, and eliminating high-quality opportunities."

Seattle came out strong, with Michael Eyssimont breaking the deadlock late in the first period after a costly Canucks turnover. The Kraken kept up the pressure, and Chandler Stephenson doubled the lead early in the second. Young forward Shane Wright added to the tally, scoring his 18th of the season off a perfectly timed drop pass from Jared McCann. By the third period, it was all but over for Vancouver as Burakovsky found the net, followed by an empty-net goal from Adam Larsson to seal the 5-0 final score.
For the Canucks, it was a night full of frustration. Goalie Thatcher Demko did his best to keep them in the game but faced relentless attacks from Seattle. Head coach Rick Tocchet didn't mince words, admitting, "I saw a lot of nervousness. We lacked poise, and once they got a couple of quick goals, we started chasing the game."
Despite their slim playoff hopes, Vancouver must regroup quickly as they now sit eight points behind the St. Louis Blues for the final wild-card spot with only one game in hand. Meanwhile, the Kraken relished playing spoiler, with Shane Wright acknowledging, "Of course, it stinks that we're not the ones fighting for the playoffs, but when you can take down a division rival in an important game for them, it always feels good."
Vancouver will need to shake off this loss fast if they want to keep their postseason dreams alive, but with time running out, the road ahead looks steeper than ever.
