Middlesbrough Dominate as Blackburn’s Woes Deepen at Ewood Park

What a night it’s been at Ewood Park, and not in a good way if you’re a Blackburn Rovers fan. Middlesbrough came flying out of the blocks in this Championship clash and took just two minutes to get on the scoresheet. Yes, two minutes ! Tom Conway found the back of the net almost instantly, setting the tone for what was to come. Just six minutes later, it was 2-0. Samuel Iling-Junior, via a wicked deflection off Danny Batth, made sure the home fans were in for a rough evening. Both assists? None other than Kelechi Iheanacho – the man was everywhere early on.

Blackburn looked completely rattled. No composure, no pressing – it felt like they were chasing shadows. You could feel the frustration from the stands, and it didn’t take long before chants of "Venky’s out!" echoed around the stadium. The fans have clearly had enough, and honestly, who can blame them?

Valérien Ismaël, still awaiting his first win as Blackburn boss, cut a grim figure on the sidelines. You could see it in the players too – dropped shoulders, loose passes, and barely any threat going forward. At one point, 20 minutes had passed, and Blackburn hadn’t even registered a single shot. That stat alone tells you how dominant Boro were.

Even when Blackburn tried to mount something, Middlesbrough’s defence stood firm. Aidan Morris was a rock in midfield, and Travers, on loan from Bournemouth, barely had anything to do in goal. To top it off, Neto Borges had to come off injured, replaced by Rav van den Berg – but it didn’t change the balance of the game one bit.

This result, if it holds, puts Middlesbrough right into the play-off spots. That’s five wins from their last seven – Michael Carrick really has his side ticking at the perfect time. On the other hand, Blackburn have now taken just one point from their last six matches. From play-off contenders to a team in freefall, sitting 11th and sinking fast.

Let’s be honest, this is more than just a bad run of form. It feels systemic. Fifteen years of off-field mismanagement are catching up. The team that once lifted the Premier League title is now closer to League One than the Premier League. And the fans know it. They’ve seen this movie before – strong start, collapse by spring, and no meaningful reinforcements when it matters most.

Tonight wasn’t just about losing 2-0. It was about a deeper frustration boiling over. The players, the manager, the supporters – everyone seems stuck. Middlesbrough just exposed the cracks more clearly than ever.

For Blackburn, unless something changes fast – on or off the pitch – it’s going to be another long, bitter end to the season.
