Nintendo Switch 2 Arrives With Upgraded Classics—But at a Price
So, have you heard? Nintendo’s long-awaited Switch 2 is finally official, and it’s stirring up excitement—and a bit of debate—across the gaming world. Set for release on June 5th, 2025 , the Switch 2 is not only bringing new hardware, but it's also reviving classic Switch titles in upgraded editions. But here's the kicker: those upgraded versions come with a new price tag, and for many fans, it’s not exactly easy to digest.

Let’s talk about the numbers first. Major UK retailers like Argos, John Lewis, and Smyths have begun listing Switch 2 Editions of popular games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , Tears of the Kingdom , Super Mario Party Jamboree , and Kirby and the Forgotten Land . These enhanced re-releases are going for £65 each , while GAME takes it even further by pricing some at £67 . That’s a steep jump, considering many of these games originally launched on the first-gen Switch—or even earlier, like Breath of the Wild which first appeared on the Wii U!
Now, it’s not just a price hike for the sake of it. Nintendo is including new content and features exclusive to the Switch 2 editions. For instance, Tears of the Kingdom now includes something called “Zelda Notes,” a streamlined system designed to help players navigate Hyrule more efficiently. And Kirby and the Forgotten Land ? That one’s getting a fresh remixed campaign called Star-Crossed World . So yes, there’s actual value being added, but it still stings for those who already bought these games once—or even twice.
The console itself will retail at £395.99 , or £429.99 if you go for the Mario Kart World bundle . And while Nintendo is offering upgrade packs for existing game owners to access these new features, we don’t yet have clear pricing or availability details on those.
It’s a bold move. Nintendo is betting that players will be willing to pay again for the games they already love—this time polished for a new generation. And sure, there’s some magic in revisiting these beloved titles with improved visuals and new mechanics. But it does raise a question: are we okay with essentially re-buying nostalgia at premium prices?
Still, with hands-on previews already showing strong impressions of the new hardware and games, it's hard not to get a little hyped. June can't come soon enough, whether you're a day-one buyer or just watching the spectacle unfold.
The Switch 2 is shaping up to be a fresh chapter in Nintendo’s story. Let’s just hope the magic outweighs the math.
