Russell Brand Speaks Out: “I Was a Fool, But Never a Rapist”
Today, Russell Brand is in the center of a firestorm after being officially charged by UK authorities with rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, and oral rape involving four separate women. The alleged incidents span from 1999 to 2005, and the charges come after a months-long investigation prompted by a Channel 4 documentary aired in September 2023. In response to these serious allegations, Brand has released a video statement online, vehemently denying all accusations.
In the video, Brand appears calm but resolute, dressed casually with a sun hat, speaking directly to his followers. He begins by acknowledging his troubled past, openly admitting that he was once a man lost in addiction, sex, and reckless behavior. “I’ve always told you guys,” he says, “when I was young and single before I had my wife and family… I was a fool, man. I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord.” He continues with conviction, “But what I never was, was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in nonconsensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”

Brand doesn't just deny the charges—he calls out what he views as an unjust attack. He claims the government is weaponizing laws against him, suggesting that this case is more than just a legal issue—it’s political. While expressing his frustration, he still highlights his willingness to face the court process head-on. “Of course, I’m now going to have the opportunity to defend these charges in court,” he says, “and I’m incredibly grateful for that.”
This is not the first time Brand has found himself in the spotlight, but it is certainly the most serious. Known for his past in comedy, film, and a chaotic public life—including a highly publicized marriage to pop star Katy Perry—Brand has more recently rebranded himself as a wellness guru and social commentator. With over 6 million followers on YouTube, his voice reaches millions, and today he’s using that platform to fight for his innocence.
As he awaits his court appearance scheduled for May 2 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the world watches. Whether you view him as a reformed man of faith or question his motives, one thing is clear: Russell Brand is not stepping away from this battle quietly.
