Seattle Kraken Crush Canucks' Playoff Hopes with Dominant Shutout
Man, what a night for the Seattle Kraken! Joey Daccord absolutely stole the show, stopping all 25 shots he faced as the Kraken shut out the Vancouver Canucks 5-0. That’s right, a complete shutout—and a major hit to the Canucks’ playoff hopes.
It all went down at Rogers Arena, and let’s just say, it wasn’t a pretty sight for the home fans. As the final seconds ticked away, the few remaining spectators let the Canucks hear it with a chorus of boos. You can’t really blame them—this was a rough one.
Seattle came in ready to play. Mikey Eyssimont got things rolling with the opening goal, capitalizing on a neutral zone turnover and slipping the puck past Thatcher Demko late in the first period. From there, the Kraken kept the pressure on. Chandler Stephenson, Shane Wright, and Andre Burakovsky all found the back of the net, with Adam Larsson sealing the deal with an empty-netter. Burakovsky also added an assist, while Jared McCann and Vince Dunn each picked up two helpers.

On the flip side, it was a tough night for Vancouver. Demko did what he could, stopping 15 shots, but he just didn’t get enough help in front of him. The Canucks had their chances early, especially with two power plays in the first five minutes, but Daccord was dialed in. He made a clutch glove save on a one-timer from Drew O’Connor, setting the tone for the rest of the night.
The loss puts the Canucks in a tough spot. They’re now eight points behind the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues, who are holding down the last two Western Conference wild-card spots. With just a handful of games left, making the playoffs is looking like an uphill battle for Vancouver.
Seattle, meanwhile, is already out of postseason contention, but that didn’t stop them from making a statement. This was Daccord’s fifth career shutout and his second of the season, his first coming back in November against the Predators. And let’s not forget—the Kraken were missing key goal-scorers Jaden Schwartz and Eeli Tolvanen. Even shorthanded, they came in and dominated.
With this win, Seattle also takes the season series against Vancouver, winning two games in regulation, one in overtime, and dropping just one in a shootout. For a team that won’t see the playoffs, at least they’ve got bragging rights over their Pacific Northwest rivals.
So, what’s next? The Canucks have to regroup fast—they’ll continue their homestand on Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks, a must-win if they want to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The Kraken, meanwhile, hit the road again for the second game of their five-game trip, facing off against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
For Vancouver fans, this was a tough pill to swallow. For Seattle, it was a night to remember. The Kraken may not be playoff-bound, but they sure know how to play spoiler.
