Weezer Bassist’s Wife Shot in Police Encounter Days Before Coachella
So, this is a wild one—totally unexpected and honestly kind of surreal. Just days before Weezer is set to hit the stage at Coachella, some shocking and very serious news has come out involving Scott Shriner, the band's longtime bassist, and his wife, Jillian Lauren. And no, it’s not music-related—this one’s straight out of a crime drama.
According to police reports and major outlets like TMZ and The Hollywood Reporter, Jillian Lauren was shot by LAPD officers during a chaotic police chase in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 8. Now, the strange part? She wasn’t even connected to the original incident.
Here’s how it all went down: The California Highway Patrol and LAPD were in hot pursuit of three suspects involved in a hit-and-run in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. After ditching their car, the suspects fled on foot into a residential area. As officers set up a perimeter and began searching nearby homes, they encountered Jillian Lauren—armed and outside her house.
According to the LAPD, officers commanded her multiple times to drop the gun, but she refused and allegedly pointed it at them. In response, police opened fire, striking her in the shoulder. She reportedly ran back into her home, but later surrendered alongside a babysitter, both emerging with their hands raised. Fortunately, her injuries were non-life-threatening, and she was treated at a local hospital.

What’s more troubling is that Jillian has now been absentee booked for attempted murder . Officers recovered a 9mm handgun from the scene, but LAPD confirmed she had no involvement in the original hit-and-run. This raises a lot of questions—what prompted her to brandish a weapon in that kind of situation? Was it fear, confusion, or something deeper going on?
Jillian Lauren isn't just a random name, either. She's a well-known author—she wrote “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem,” a memoir about her time in the inner circle of the Prince of Brunei. She's also known for her advocacy work and for being candid about her complex past. That past just got a whole lot more complicated.
Meanwhile, Scott Shriner is still scheduled to perform with Weezer at Coachella this coming Saturday. The band was added last-minute to the lineup after other artists dropped out. No official statement has been made yet by the band or Shriner himself regarding the incident.
So here we are—just days before one of the biggest music festivals in the world, and one of its performers is dealing with a deeply personal crisis unfolding in real time. It’s a developing story for sure, and definitely one to watch closely.
