A New Era Begins: Rigby High Breaks Ground on Year-Round Field House
Hey everyone, some exciting news out of Rigby, Idaho today—something that's going to make a big difference for local students, athletes, and the wider community. Rigby High School has officially broken ground on a brand new field house! That’s right, after much anticipation, the first shovels hit the ground on May 15th, marking the beginning of a project that’s going to reshape athletics and community involvement in the area.
Now, if you know anything about Idaho weather, you know the seasons don’t always play nice with outdoor sports. Cold months drag on, and for a lot of teams—like Rigby’s baseball squad—that means practice gets confined to gyms or even just basketball courts. Head Baseball Coach Sam Phillips put it perfectly: they usually can’t even touch a real field until the end of March. But now, thanks to this new facility, the team can get started much earlier in the season, better prepared, and way more competitive. It's a total game-changer.

But here’s what makes this even more special—it’s not just about high school sports. This field house is being built for the entire community. Once it’s done, the doors won’t just be open to student-athletes. They’ll be open to anyone in the area who wants to get active, stay healthy, or just enjoy a space built for movement and connection. Jefferson School District 251 Superintendent Chad Martin summed it up really well: when kids and families are involved in positive, active things, it benefits the whole community. It’s an investment not just in athletics, but in Rigby’s future.
And let’s not forget how this is all being made possible. A huge shout-out goes to Broulim’s for their generous donation that helped kickstart this project. It’s always incredible to see local businesses step up and give back in a big way like this. Superintendent Martin was quick to thank them, and honestly, the entire community owes them a round of applause.
So there you have it—Rigby High School is not just building a field house. They’re building opportunity. They’re building momentum. They’re building a space where students and families can thrive, even when the snow is falling. And today, it all started with that first scoop of dirt.
