David Austin Unveils ‘The King’s Rose’ at Chelsea Flower Show 2025

At this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, one of the most anticipated horticultural events in the world, a spectacular floral tribute has taken center stage—David Austin Roses has officially unveiled The King’s Rose , a breathtakingly unique new variety honouring His Majesty King Charles III. This is not just another rose. It’s a living celebration of the monarch’s lifelong dedication to nature, sustainability, and gardening excellence.

Imagine standing in the middle of the Great Pavilion, surrounded by an immersive secret garden installation, and there it is— The King’s Rose , radiant in its striped beauty. The petals are strikingly handpainted in fuchsia pink and creamy white, a nod to the elegant charm of old Gallica roses. But it’s more than just visually stunning; the rose exudes a delicate musk fragrance, with subtle notes of fresh apple, rose water, and soft clove, making it as enticing to the nose as it is to the eyes.

This rose has been 12 years in the making, meticulously bred through a process that began with over 40,000 seedlings. Only one made it through to final selection, refined to meet David Austin’s famously high standards of fragrance, beauty, and resilience. According to head breeder Carl Bennett, developing The King’s Rose has been nothing short of a labour of love—a decade-long journey requiring patience, precision, and vision.

What makes this launch even more poignant is the collaboration with The King’s Foundation , and the fact that this rose has already been growing in the royal gardens at Highgrove for the past three years. Carefully tended by the King’s own gardening team, it’s bloomed beautifully in pots on the royal patio and even adorns a newly unveiled crown sculpture by willow artist Emma Stothard.

This is also a landmark moment for David Austin Roses—it’s their very first striped variety. David J.C. Austin, Chairman of the company, remarked on the emotional connection the Chelsea Flower Show holds for the brand. Since 1983, it’s been the venue for some of their most celebrated introductions. Unveiling The King’s Rose here not only honours tradition but marks a new chapter in innovation and royal collaboration.

Priced at £36.50, The King’s Rose is available via the David Austin Roses website, with proceeds going to support The King’s Foundation and its mission to build sustainable communities and champion heritage preservation.

It’s a rose that’s bold, elegant, and deeply symbolic—a botanical tribute to a monarch who has spent decades nurturing the land, supporting ecological practices, and fostering a genuine love for horticulture. So, if you're visiting Chelsea this year, don’t miss your chance to see this remarkable rose in full bloom. It’s more than a flower; it’s a royal statement grown from the heart.
