Gold Coast SUNS Embrace the Chill at People First Stadium for Big Freeze 11

Hey everyone, I’ve got something truly special to talk about today—and trust me, it’s going to send a chill down your spine, quite literally. The Gold Coast SUNS are once again gearing up to make a splash for an incredible cause with the return of Big Freeze 11, right here at People First Stadium.

Now, this isn’t just any event. This is a fight—a fight against one of the most devastating diseases out there: motor neuron disease, or MND. The SUNS, in partnership with FightMND, are going all-in to raise awareness and much-needed funds for research into this heartbreaking illness. And they’re doing it in true SUNS style, with ice baths, star power, and community spirit.

On June 3, People First Stadium is set to become the coolest place on the Gold Coast—literally. A lineup of VIPs will be plunging into an icy cold Plungie Quad pool, all in the name of charity. If you’re familiar with past events, you’ll know legends like Spida Everitt, Ian Healy, and Damien Hardwick have all taken the dive. This year’s crew? Still under wraps, but you can bet it’ll be a star-studded group ready to take the plunge for a great cause.

The whole event will take place in the Fifth Quarter Bar, where the SUNS are inviting everyone—yes, everyone—from across the Coast to come out, get involved, and be part of something bigger. You’ll even get the chance to meet your favourite SUNS AFL and AFLW players. It’s a rare opportunity to get close to the team while supporting a cause that touches so many lives.

Mark Evans, Gold Coast SUNS CEO and a board member at FightMND, couldn’t have put it better. He said, “We want to play our role in making a difference and fighting the beast that is motor neuron disease.” And he’s absolutely right. This event has grown into one of the most important moments on the AFL calendar over the past decade, and it’s only getting bigger and better.

FightMND CEO Matt Tilley also chimed in, adding a bit of cheeky fun: “The SUNS are usually the enemy of ice baths—but on this occasion, they’re besties with the freeze.” It's all lighthearted, but behind that humour is a serious mission—bringing people together to help find a cure for MND.

So, how can you help? It’s simple. Head over to the SUNS’ FightMND donation page to chip in. Or show your support by picking up a FightMND beanie, hat, or socks at Coles, Bunnings, or Coles Express. Wear your gear proudly and let the world know you stand with the cause.

Let’s rally around this together. Let’s show what community looks like. Let’s freeze the coast for Big Freeze 11—and make every shiver count.
