Shahrukh & Rutherford Ignite Hope in GT’s High-Octane Chase vs LSG
What a cracker of a contest we’re witnessing at the Narendra Modi Stadium tonight! It’s the 64th match of IPL 2025, and Gujarat Titans are up against Lucknow Super Giants in what’s turning out to be a nerve-jangling thriller. LSG threw down the gauntlet with a towering total of 235 for 2, and Gujarat are out there swinging for the fences in this high-stakes chase.
Let’s rewind a bit. The fireworks started with Mitchell Marsh, who was simply unstoppable today. The Aussie all-rounder smashed a sensational 117 off just 62 balls—his maiden IPL century. He looked in complete control from the get-go and stitched a solid opening partnership of 91 runs with Aiden Markram. Markram chipped in with a classy 36 before falling to Sai Kishore. But Marsh was relentless. He kept pounding the GT bowlers, ably supported by Nicholas Pooran, who fired a brisk unbeaten 56 off 27 balls. Add a cameo by Rishabh Pant at the end, and LSG finished on a monstrous 235/2.
Now, any total north of 230 looks intimidating on paper. And early on, Gujarat looked wobbly. They lost their top trio—Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler—fairly early in the innings. But just when it seemed like the chase was slipping away, up stepped Shahrukh Khan and Sherfane Rutherford.

And boy, have they delivered!
Shahrukh has been an absolute revelation tonight. At one point, GT needed over 100 runs in the last seven overs. Enter SRK (not the Bollywood one, but just as dramatic on the field). He’s blasting boundaries, muscling sixes, and carrying Gujarat's hopes with every swing of the bat. His 50 off just 22 balls is one of the most ferocious counter-attacks we've seen this season. The guy is batting like he’s got nothing to lose—and everything to prove.
Rutherford has been the perfect partner in crime. Calm, calculated, and explosive when needed. He reverse-swept one for six over backward point that had the crowd on its feet. These two have combined for a blistering partnership, and suddenly, what looked like a tall mountain now feels like a hill they just might climb.
At 184 for 4 in 16.3 overs, GT still needs 52 off 21 balls. It's tense. It's fiery. The pressure is relentless. But if there’s anything we’ve learned from T20 cricket, especially IPL, it’s that the game is never over till the last ball. And with Shahrukh and Rutherford still at the crease, you’d be brave to count GT out just yet.
No matter how this ends, it’s been a spectacle worthy of the IPL stage. The kind of match that reminds you why we love this game. Hold your breath—this chase is going down to the wire!
