This isn’t about downloading some fancy app. It’s already built into your iPhone, and it takes under two minutes to set up. You just open your Health app, tap your profile picture, then select Medical ID. Hit “Get Started” or “Edit,” and then fill in key information—your allergies, medical conditions, medications, blood type, and emergency contacts. That’s it.

Why is this such a big deal? Well, imagine you're unconscious in a public place. No ID. No one knows who you are. Paramedics arrive, and they need to act fast—but they don’t know if you’re allergic to penicillin, or if you’re on medication that might interact dangerously with treatment. With Medical ID, they can access that crucial information without unlocking your phone . Yes, even if your screen is locked, emergency responders can still view your Medical ID. It’s designed exactly for these situations.
@MummyNeeNaw shared that she often checks the patient’s phone immediately—because when you're alone and in need, that might be the only source of information. She mentioned a recent case where a man was very ill and had no ID on him. That Medical ID could’ve provided critical insights.
You can also set up your emergency contacts, so when the SOS feature is activated—on iPhones 14 and newer—it will automatically ping emergency services and notify your loved ones, even via satellite if you're off the grid.
