Thousands Missing Out on DWP Cost of Living Payments — Check If You're Eligible
Hey everyone, I want to talk about something really important that's affecting thousands of households right now in the UK — the cost of living support that's still available, but many people just aren't claiming it.
So, as of 2025, the government’s Household Support Fund is still active and has been extended until March 2026. That’s huge news — but here’s the kicker: despite millions being allocated across local councils, a lot of families and individuals simply don’t know this help is out there. And we’re talking about real money — in some areas, that could be up to £500 per household.
Let’s break it down. The Department for Work and Pensions has distributed the funding, but how it's used is down to each local council. That means the support you can get depends entirely on where you live. Some councils are giving out supermarket or energy vouchers, others are making direct payments, and in places like Worcestershire, they’re offering up to £500 for vulnerable residents. That includes people with long-term illnesses, carers, or those who’ve recently gone through a crisis.

Now, if you’re in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole, you could be eligible for two £150 vouchers — so that’s £300 in total. But you need to act fast; the first window closes on July 4th, 2025. Salford’s offering £200 for energy bills, and North Somerset is giving £100 food vouchers per child to families on free school meals, no application needed.
It’s clear that local councils are trying to target those who are really feeling the pinch — families on low income, older people, and people with disabilities. But here’s the thing: the help isn’t always automatic. You might need to apply, and usually within a specific time frame, with proof of your situation. If you wait too long or miss a step, you could lose your chance.
Unfortunately, the government also confirmed there won’t be any additional DWP cost of living payments in 2025 beyond what's already been planned. So, this local support could be the only financial relief for many. And while the one-off DWP payments we saw in the past helped, experts and charities are saying it’s not enough — people are still struggling with high energy bills, food costs, and rent.
So here’s my message: if you’re worried about bills, food, or keeping your home warm — don’t wait. Go to your local council’s website or give them a call. You might be entitled to hundreds of pounds in help, but you’ll never know unless you check.
Let’s not leave money on the table — especially when so many families need it now more than ever.
