Cynthia Erivo Soars Again as Elphaba inWicked: For GoodTrailer Reveal

It’s official—Cynthia Erivo is back in green and more powerful than ever. The newly released full-length trailer for Wicked: For Good , the sequel to the blockbuster adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked , has taken fans straight back to the land of Oz with a darker, more emotionally charged tone. And at the heart of it all is Erivo, commanding the screen as Elphaba, the misunderstood yet formidable Wicked Witch of the West.

The trailer doesn’t waste a second plunging us into the thick of the aftermath. We pick up right where the first film left off—Elphaba now a fugitive, hunted by a society that has branded her a villain, while Glinda, played again by Ariana Grande, finds herself a polished public figure, still under the manipulative control of the Wizard. One of the most striking visuals shows Glinda peering out from a cracked bedroom window, only to find Elphaba mysteriously appearing beside her on the balcony. It’s haunting, intimate, and teases the emotional tension between the two former friends.

What makes Erivo's return so compelling is how naturally she embodies Elphaba’s growth. No longer just a rebellious student at Shiz University, she's a fully realized force—writing "Our wizard lies" across the skies of Oz with her broomstick, and standing firm in the face of mobs and betrayal. There's a mix of grit and grace in Erivo’s performance, even in short glimpses, that reminds us why she was born for this role.

We also get our first hint of Dorothy’s arrival, her familiar silhouette walking the Yellow Brick Road with companions in tow. Though the actress portraying her remains under wraps, her inclusion raises the stakes and connects the dots between Wicked and The Wizard of Oz in a way fans have been eagerly anticipating.

The emotional core of the trailer is a tender moment between Elphaba and Glinda. Elphaba says, “You're the only friend I've ever had,” to which Glinda, ever the charmer, replies, “But only one that mattered.” That line alone is enough to stir long-time fans. Their friendship, fractured yet enduring, is clearly going to be the anchor in this final chapter.

Director Jon M. Chu promises a story full of consequence and emotional payoff. With two new original songs added to the mix and familiar numbers like “For Good” and “No Good Deed” making a return, Wicked: For Good is shaping up to be both an epic spectacle and a deeply human story.

Cynthia Erivo, with her towering vocals and emotional range, continues to redefine what it means to be “wicked.” If the trailer is any indication, she’s not just flying back—she’s soaring.
