Fatal Day in Fleetwood: Gunfire Claims Life Near Surrey Community Centre

Hey everyone, I want to talk to you about a really tragic and troubling incident that just unfolded here in Surrey. It’s the kind of news that hits close to home—because it did happen right in our community. On the afternoon of June 11th, the peaceful streets of the Fleetwood neighbourhood were shattered by gunfire. A man lost his life in what police are calling a targeted shooting outside a commercial business near 84th Avenue and 159th Street, right across from a local community centre.

It was around 3:45 p.m. when officers from the Surrey Police Service and the RCMP's Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit were called to the scene. Emergency response teams and paramedics rushed over quickly, and what they found was heartbreaking. A man had been shot and was suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite every effort to save him, he died right there at the scene. Just imagine—someone lost their life in broad daylight, mere steps from where families gather, kids play, and people go about their everyday routines.

The case has now been taken over by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, or IHIT. They’ve confirmed that the investigation is still in its early stages, and right now, they’re working closely with local police units to dig deeper into what happened and why. What’s particularly chilling is that this shooting is currently believed not to be linked to any other ongoing investigations, which only deepens the mystery surrounding the motive.

This is now Surrey’s third homicide of 2025. No arrests have been made yet, and police are urging anyone who might have seen something—or has any information—to come forward. You can reach IHIT directly through their information line at 1-877-551-IHIT or via email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca .

Incidents like this shake a community to its core. They remind us how fragile peace can be, and how violence, even if isolated, can have a wide ripple effect. It’s not just about one victim; it’s about the sense of safety for all of us. Let’s stay alert, check in on each other, and support our local law enforcement as they try to bring justice in this tragic case.
