Flyers Land Trevor Zegras in Blockbuster Trade With Ducks
Wow, what a major move by the Philadelphia Flyers — they've officially acquired center Trevor Zegras from the Anaheim Ducks in a trade that’s already shaking up the NHL. This isn’t just a roster shuffle. This is a bold statement by GM Daniel Brière about the direction this team is heading. The Flyers are clearly done waiting around.
In exchange, Philadelphia sent forward Ryan Poehling, the 45th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, and a 2026 fourth-rounder to Anaheim. It's a package that reflects the high value Zegras holds. At just 24 years old, he’s already packed an impressive résumé and is widely known for his offensive creativity and high-end playmaking.

Zegras was originally drafted 9th overall by the Ducks back in 2019, and over the past five seasons, he’s shown consistent development. In 268 NHL games, he’s put up 67 goals and 186 points — not bad at all for someone still entering his prime. His back-to-back 60+ point seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23 speak for themselves. In fact, during that 2022-23 season, he led the Ducks in just about every offensive category that matters — goals, total points, game-winners, and overtime tallies.
Sure, last season was a bit of a step back statistically with just 12 goals and 32 points over 57 games, but there’s no denying his upside. Even in a down year, he still posted the fifth-best point-per-game average on the Ducks roster. That’s the kind of player you bet on, and clearly the Flyers are doing just that.
Beyond his NHL contributions, Zegras has been a star on the international stage too. Most fans will remember his MVP performance at the 2021 World Junior Championship, where he put up 18 points in 7 games and helped Team USA secure gold. Add in his appearances at the 2024 World Championship and his college dominance at Boston University, and you’ve got a player with a winning pedigree and elite-level skill.
This trade also leaves the Flyers in a great position heading into the 2025 Draft. They now have six picks in the first two rounds and ten total selections. That's a serious war chest for a team looking to build something sustainable. The combination of acquiring young, proven talent like Zegras while still stacking draft capital shows real strategic depth from the Flyers’ front office.
Whether Zegras becomes the franchise centerpiece the Flyers are hoping for remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure — Philadelphia just got a whole lot more exciting.
