From Assam to Spain: 17 Young Footballers Set to Train at Marbella FC
Imagine this: seventeen young footballers from Assam, most of them hailing from humble backgrounds, are now packing their boots for a 14-day trip to Spain to train at Marbella FC—yes, the same club where Brazilian and Manchester United star Casemiro is a stakeholder. It’s not just a story about sport. It’s about hope, grit, and the beginning of something big for Indian football—especially from the Northeast.
This exciting opportunity was born from the 70th Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi football tournament, where under-19 players were given the spotlight by making their inclusion mandatory in every team. With around 700 young players taking part, the scouting pool was vast, and from this group, 72 were shortlisted. After a rigorous selection camp at the SAI Ground in Guwahati, 17 players and 5 reserves earned their golden ticket to Spain.

What’s even more encouraging is that the trials were overseen by none other than Renedy Singh—former India captain and AFC Pro License coach. He was deeply impressed by the potential he saw, mentioning that with the right guidance, these boys could go on to achieve greatness. Some of these kids come from places where football gear is borrowed and dreams are often dismissed. And yet, here they are—about to train in a facility that has seen players like Casemiro walk through its doors.
This collaboration is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) and Madrid-based agency Best of You (BOY), which represents Casemiro himself. Anuj Kichlu, CEO of BOY India, along with director Saurav Chatterjee, led this initiative with full support from GSA’s leadership, including Devajit Saikia and Paresh Chandra Das.
If things go well—and one or more of these young talents catch the eye of European scouts—their stay could be extended. Just the thought of that gives goosebumps. Marbella FC, which plays in Spain’s third division, is known for its strong youth setup and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Their youth squad even competes in the La Liga Youth League, one of the most competitive youth leagues in the world.
This isn’t just a two-week training program. This is about shaping careers, changing mindsets, and showing an entire generation of footballers from Assam that their talent matters—and that the world is watching.
Whether it’s the rugged tea gardens of Tinsukia or the dusty fields of Guwahati, these 17 young players are carrying the dreams of thousands. And as they step onto Spanish soil, they aren’t just learning the game—they’re rewriting their future.
