Gunman Killed by Church Security in Wayne, Michigan Shooting
Yesterday morning, something truly shocking unfolded in the quiet city of Wayne, Michigan — an incident that has left many stunned, heartbroken, and deeply reflective. At around 11:15 a.m., during a Sunday service at CrossPointe Community Church, a gunman entered the sanctuary and opened fire. There were about 150 people in attendance at the time. What could have been a devastating mass tragedy was abruptly halted — thanks to the courageous and immediate action of church security.
According to police and eyewitness reports, the suspect, a 31-year-old white male, managed to shoot one person — believed to be the church's security guard — in the leg. But before the situation could escalate further, another churchgoer intervened. In a remarkable and brave move, that individual attempted to stop the shooter by ramming into him with their truck. That critical distraction gave the wounded security guard just enough time to fire back and fatally stop the threat.

This all took place within a matter of minutes. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The security guard, though injured, is expected to recover. Miraculously, no other members of the congregation were physically harmed.
Police and federal agents, including Homeland Security officials, responded swiftly and are still investigating the motive behind the attack. While officials haven't released any information about the suspect’s identity or potential reasons for targeting the church, the community remains on high alert, and authorities have urged people to avoid the area for now.
CrossPointe's pastor, Bobby Kelly Jr., called it a terrifying moment — one he hopes never repeats. He expressed gratitude for the quick action of both the security team and the heroic church member who intervened with his truck.
This incident is yet another painful reminder of the persistent threat of gun violence, even in places meant to provide safety and sanctuary. But it’s also a reminder of the strength of community and the power of individuals who act with courage under unimaginable pressure.
As Wayne heals and the investigation unfolds, one thing remains clear — the bravery and quick decisions made on Sunday saved lives.
