Major Internet Outage Hits CenturyLink, Quantum Fiber, and Brightspeed Across US
Hey everyone, let’s talk about something that has really shaken up internet users across the U.S. — a widespread broadband outage that hit some of the major providers like CenturyLink, Quantum Fiber, and Brightspeed. If you’ve been struggling with your internet connection recently and wondering if it’s just you, the answer is — absolutely not. You're definitely not alone.
On Thursday, June 19, thousands of users across multiple states found themselves disconnected from the digital world. This wasn't just a small glitch or a localized issue — it was a massive nationwide disruption. According to data from Down Detector, CenturyLink bore the brunt of the outage, with over 25,000 reports flooding in from frustrated users. Quantum Fiber wasn't far behind, clocking more than 17,000 outage reports. Brightspeed, though not as severely impacted, still saw over 3,000 users raising complaints.
And these aren’t just random blips. This was a coordinated collapse in service. The map of the outage reports was lit up like a Christmas tree, indicating that users from nearly all U.S. states were affected. About 90% of the complaints mentioned a complete inability to connect to the internet, while others reported slow speeds or intermittent drops. For anyone relying on a steady connection for work, streaming, or communication — this was an absolute nightmare.

In total, over 50,000 users raised the alarm. That’s not just a number — that’s tens of thousands of homes and businesses left in the dark, scrambling to tether to mobile hotspots or simply waiting for the issue to be resolved.
Interestingly, while the outage appears to have eased somewhat since then, the silence from the companies involved has been pretty loud. As of now, none of the providers — CenturyLink, Quantum Fiber, or Brightspeed — have released any official statement explaining the cause of the outage or when users can expect full service restoration. It's frustrating, especially when transparency and quick updates are exactly what customers need in situations like this.
CenturyLink and Quantum Fiber are both operated under the umbrella of Lumen Technologies — though Quantum Fiber is in the process of being acquired by AT&T as of May 2025. Brightspeed, meanwhile, covers regions that used to be under Lumen's network. The shared infrastructure might explain why the outage seemed to hit all three services so hard at once.
Hopefully, the providers come forward soon with an explanation and a long-term fix to prevent something like this from happening again. For now, all we can do is wait, refresh our modems, and keep an eye on Down Detector. If you're still experiencing issues, it might not hurt to report it — every bit of data helps build a clearer picture of what’s really going on.
Stay tuned, stay patient, and hopefully, stay connected.
