So, guess what? The galaxy is officially getting ridiculous again— Spaceballs 2 is happening, and the cast is out of this world. That’s right: Mel Brooks is making his long-awaited return as the legendary Yogurt, and at 98 years old (soon to be 99!), he's showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. This isn’t just a cameo or nostalgic nod—Brooks is back with full comedic force, alongside Rick Moranis reprising his role as the unforgettable Dark Helmet and Bill Pullman returning as the ever-heroic Lone Starr. Oh, and to top it off, Keke Palmer is joining the interstellar mayhem, though her character is still being kept under wraps.

After decades of speculation, Brooks finally confirmed it himself with a cheeky post: “I told you we’d be back.” And if you know Brooks’ humor, you know that’s both a promise and a punchline. This sequel is being developed under Amazon MGM Studios and will hit theaters in 2027. Interestingly, insiders have dubbed it “a Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two with Reboot Elements”—which honestly feels like the most Spaceballs description ever.

The man behind the madness this time around is director Josh Greenbaum (from Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar ) and the script is co-written by none other than Josh Gad, alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Gad, a longtime fan of Spaceballs , once joked that he saw the parody before he saw Star Wars —and now he’s helping craft its next chapter.

But the real emotional core of this news? Rick Moranis. The man who essentially left Hollywood in the ’90s to focus on raising his children following his wife’s passing is stepping back into one of his most beloved roles. For years, Brooks had said he wouldn’t do a sequel without Moranis—and now here we are, helmet and all.

And of course, Bill Pullman is jumping back into hyperspace as Lone Starr. It’s hard to overstate how much charm and heart he brought to the original, and fans are undoubtedly thrilled to see him steer this franchise once more.

The original Spaceballs , released in 1987, spoofed everything from Star Wars to 2001: A Space Odyssey and grossed just over $38 million. While not a box office juggernaut back then, it’s since become a cult classic, with generations quoting lines like “May the Schwartz be with you” and laughing at Pizza the Hutt’s greasy demise.

The upcoming sequel is shrouded in mystery—no title, no confirmed plot, just a lot of excited whispers and a cast that promises a whole new galaxy of laughs. With Palmer’s recent comedic success and Gad’s passion for the material, the energy feels right for Spaceballs 2 to land at warp speed.

So, for everyone who’s been holding onto their Yogurt bobblehead or still giggles at the phrase “Ludicrous Speed,” it’s time. We’re going back. And Mel Brooks, once again, is our Schwartz-wielding guide.
