Missing Montreal Toddler Found Alive in Ontario Thanks to Police Drone
So, here's something truly remarkable and heart-wrenching that’s been unfolding in Canada over the last few days. A three-year-old girl from Montreal, Claire Bell, was reported missing on Sunday and has now been found alive—thankfully—near St. Albert, Ontario. Claire was initially reported missing by her mother, Rachel-Ella Todd, on Sunday afternoon in Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec. What makes this even more troubling is that Claire had actually last been seen earlier that same day in Montreal’s LaSalle borough, some 50 kilometers east of where her mother raised the alarm. Rachel walked into a store, told staff she didn’t know where her daughter was, and that’s when a massive search was triggered.
Now, police quickly ramped things up, launching a cross-provincial investigation involving both Quebec and Ontario forces. Investigators discovered that Claire and her mother had been seen together later that same day, around 2 p.m., in the Casselman and St. Albert area in Ontario. That gave police a much-needed lead.

The real turning point came on Wednesday when the Ontario Provincial Police deployed a drone, and it spotted little Claire all by herself on the side of Highway 417 near St. Albert. Alone. Rachel-Ella Todd, the mother, is now in custody. She’s facing charges of child abandonment, which is a very serious offense. She made a brief court appearance via video and is being held at Leclerc prison in Laval. The court has postponed her bail hearing to Friday. Crown prosecutors are opposing her release because of the severity of the case.
Police are still asking for the public’s help to fill in the missing pieces, especially anyone who may have seen the pair between 9:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in southwestern Quebec or eastern Ontario. One witness mentioned seeing a woman on a farm wearing an apron that said "abondance." Every little detail could help.
